This cultivar originated as a witch’s broom, found in 1978 Karel Kalouš of Czech Republic. Even though 100s of Czech mugo pine witch’s brooms have been found and named over the years, this one is distinctive enough to be worthy of seeking out and adding to one’s conifer collection. Occasionally, this plant is seen listed with the names ‘Nana Kalouš’ and ‘Pygmy Kalouš’, which are misnamings.
