The Biodiversity Mural — A Living Tribute to Nature
Inside the welcome building at Jardin Scullion, a quiet masterpiece stretches across the walls. This 100-metre-long, hand-painted mural is a celebration of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region’s biodiversity — and of our deep connection to the living world.
Created in 2007 and 2008 using only recycled paint, the mural brings to life the region’s main ecosystems — boreal forests, wetlands, rivers, mountains — through vibrant, detailed depictions of its native plants and wildlife.
More than 1,000 hours of dedicated work went into this collaborative creation, brought to life by four gifted Quebec artists:
Alain Thériault
Daniel Labelle
Marcel Desbiens
Marie Villeneuve
Their vision transformed a simple wall into an immersive, poetic space — one that invites reflection, wonder, and a renewed connection with the natural world.
Housed within a building already rich in meaning — built with reclaimed timber and care — the mural embodies the heart of Jardin Scullion: a place where beauty, respect, and nature come together. A reminder that living green starts with how we see the world around us.
